Hello…

My name is Philippa and I got my start at a London literary agency in 2004, after which time I worked as a commissioning editor. In 2011 I set up an editorial business called Smart Quill, which is still going! 15 happy years and hundreds of happy authors later…

I also spent several decades as a literary scout for film/tv producers in the US, UK and Australia. Since 2008 I have scrutinised how books get adapted - which ones are chosen, which parts are retained, how they are expanded and contracted to make a whole new version. I have done podcasts on the subject, and panels at book and media conferences. My substack, The Secret Agent, covers it regularly.

Book to screen fascinates me… it is a kind of wondrous alchemy.

I used to kick about the term ‘reverse adaptation’ when I first moved to LA - the idea of seguing screenwriters into fiction and nonfiction.

So I am delighted finally to be offering this service. To any writer sitting on a script (or many scripts), there is something you can do. Take it out of the drawer. Turn it into a book.
